Judy grew up in St. Theresa Point First Nation, a remote Northern reserve and has spent over the last ten years working, living and going to post secondary institutions in an urban area. She has a Business Studies diploma from Red River College in Steinbach in which she made the Deans List, and has also attained her Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree from the I. H. Asper School of Business.
A proud mother of six and third generation entrepreneur, Judy is no stranger to hard work. She is noted for her business acumen as she grew up in her grandfathers business as well as her own parents businesses throughout her young life before she had to leave her reserve to attend secondary schooling. When she returned from high school, jobs were scarce, rather than waiting for employment, she created her own business by making and selling Native handicrafts such as moccasins, leather gloves and mukluks. “We have the knowledge of what we need in our respective communities, we just need to be heard and be given the freedom to achieve our dreams”.
For Manitoba to succeed, we have to bring the many Northern communities onto a level playing field with the rest of Canada.
